NC State’s season ends in Sweet Sixteen with 79-61 loss to Iowa586aefbdd0566a01ea8031591ec1e19f

There was no doubt Saturday about who had the best team on the floor—that was Iowa. The Hawkeyes controlled the action for the majority of the afternoon, outscoring the Wolfpack Women by at least five points in three of four quarters.
Iowa shot the ball well, NC State didn’t, and that was that.

State did the best it could to rescue possessions with offensive rebounds, but the gap in shooting effectiveness was far too large. Behind star center Megan Gustafson’s efforts, the Hawkeyes made 60% of their two-point attempts. Gustafson finished 10-14 from the field and scored 27 points.
NC State made only 37.7% of its twos and suffered poor shooting days from both Kiara Leslie (6-20) and Elissa Cunane (6-19), both of whom needed to be good today to give the Pack a chance to advance. The injury toll is such that State’s offense has nowhere else to turn for major production. Alas.
It’s a disappointing way to see this great year come to a close, but there are brighter days ahead for this group.
