NC State Signee Jalen Lecque Submits Papers to Explore NBA Eligibility912d7ed2d198fa133341d519146915db

According to Jonathan Givony of ESPN, NC State 2019 signee Jalen Lecque has submitted paperwork to determine if he is in fact eligible for the 2019 NBA Draft.

“We’re waiting to hear if he’s eligible or not,” Derrick Lecque told ESPN. “We’re waiting for them to evaluate the transcripts.”

Lecque is a 4-star prospect that 247Sports ranks as the #33 overall player in the 2019 recruiting class. He verbally committed to NC State on October 2nd of last year, and signed his national letter of intent in November.

Originally a member of the 2018 class, playing for Christ School (Arden, NC), Lecque reclassified to the 2019 class, playing a year of Prep ball up at Brewster Academy this year.

Lecque averaged 12.6 points, 4.6 assists, 4.1 rebounds, and 1.5 steals this year, helping Brewster win a National Championship.

It has been assumed that Lecque would be draft eligible, being one year removed from graduation, but this paperwork is necessary to move through the process.

This news does not mean that Lecque will not play at NC State next season. He is simply going through the evaluation process, and can remove his name by May 29th.

In my opinion, this is wise of Lecque. The feedback he receives is I’ll help him be a better pro one day, whether that is this year or the next.

With that being said, unless Lecque blows scouts minds at the Jordan Brand Classic and in through the evaluation process, I imagine Lecque will be in Raleigh next year. None of the current mock drafts have Lecque as a 1st round pick at this point.
